Representative Jay Neal of Lafayette told Channel 2 Action News, he worked with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, to draft the bill, which he will formally introduce on Monday.
A Channel 2 Action News investigation exposed how easily the mind altering herb can be purchased. Sold as incense, the potpourri like mix is sprayed with a synthetic form of T-H-C. Channel 2 Action News Reporter Tom Regan visited the Georgia Poison Center and learned counselors have received nearly two dozen calls of young people overdosing on synthetic pot. The side effects include high blood pressure, seizures, and respiratory illness. Two teens were rushed to North Fulton Regional Hospital early Sunday Feb.28 morning after smoking the tainted herb. One remained for two days before he was released.
"It's very dangerous, it's almost like playing Russian roulette, Rep. Neal told Channel 2 Action News.
"Young people have no idea what they're doing when they use these drugs. We need to get ahead of this before it becomes a major problem," Rep. Neal said.
